農委會和專家證實，這兩年紅火蟻分佈增加了二點七倍，農政單位在新竹縣建立的防治紅火蟻「馬其頓」防線全面失守，紅火蟻從桃園和新竹地區往南快速增加，日前新竹縣還有民眾被紅火蟻叮咬而休克。


據農委會的資料，紅火蟻在民國九十二年首度入侵台灣，遍佈全台台北縣市、竹竹苗、桃園和嘉義縣等七個縣市、五萬四千多公頃。儘管有關單位全面防止紅火蟻擴散，但防堵紅火蟻的「馬其頓」防線，還是面臨全面失守，尤其在桃園和新竹不斷增加，甚至有往南擴散的趨勢。
